Welcome to Good Hope

Welcome back from Winter Break, Good Hope Families!! There have been some improvements made to our area and our school over the vacation. We have updated our playground equipment and added a detention basin to help with water drainage. One of the most exciting projects is the sidewalks that are under construction which will provide a safer route to school for our students and community members. This has been a 3 year project between PESD and the County of Riverside. I would like to thank all involved in this project.
Our 1:1 iPad initiative has proven successful in engaging students in their learning and developing 21st century learning competencies in digital learning. This spring our students will be exposed to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) components through our Steminars. The Steminars will offer specialized project based learning at all grade levels to create a more hands-on learning environment. We are proud of the program we are offering students while moving them towards college and career readiness through the Common Core State Standards.
Remember, breakfast is from 7:30am to 8am. It is important that if your child is eating at school that they be here before 8 am. To ensure students are eating breakfast, we no longer have free play before school, but rather a structured activity like the walking club. This change comes about to ensure that within the hours of 8 am - 2:15 pm, your child is receiving as much instruction as possible. At 8am, instruction begins and the campus becomes a closed campus.
As always, we encourage you to be involved in your child's education by becoming a parent volunteer. Please come by the office to find out about the volunteer requirements or look up the information under our parent tab on Good Hope Elementary school's website.

Instructional Focus Areas
STEMINAR #1: The Marshmallow Challenge
The Marshmallow Challenge is an opportunity for project based learning which provides a hands on approach to teaching and learning grade level standards! Teachers and students had to build the tallest free standing structure out of 20 pieces of raw spaghetti, one yard of string, one yard of tape with the jumbo marshmallow sitting on top of the structure.
The Hour of Code
Good Hope Students participated in The Hour of Code to introduce them to computer science and how to program video games. To learn more about this, there is a video at www.code.org under The Hour of Code to show students (and yourselves what this is and why it is important). From Bill Gates, to the creators of Facebook and Dropbox, these videos will motivate kids to learn how to code a video game/program.
